I really love the luxury and comfort of the large coach built motorhome what do you do on that narrow lane when you suddenly realise that need to turn it round?
Can you park up anywhere or do you always have to go on a proper campsite? What do you do when you need some shopping and so on and so on….?
Like with everything in life there has to be a series of compromises on price, drivability, must have and can do withouts.
So what if you could compromise some of the accommodation comfort but still have the everyday use of an everyday vehicle that can take you away for your vacation or weekend leisure activity..
You can use some campervans very well as your regular everyday car but one that can also shift that wardrobe, the odd settee and what-have-you. Furthermore and being a believer in green issues I can assure you that I have no wish to destroy the planet so for me keeping two vehicles on the road when one will do is not very green. More especially I also subscribe to the club that believes that making a new high mpg, low emission cars will contribute with a bigger “carbon footprint” than running the old one or buying into a one multi-purpose campervan is better.
Some diehard motor homers will say “but it’s more like some corporate day van – Sit there Mr Jones and fill out the form. It’s only 27 pages…” but we are not necessarily talking about high cost conversions based on a new commercial white van man vehicle at all!
You can get high quality second hand RHD imports and luxury MPV based conversions done so that you get a superior driving experience vehicle that couples car like performance and manoeuvrability but with 2 berths or 2 + 2 sleeping.
You still have the safety proven dedicated seating for 4 or 5 passengers just like your regular car and you get to go anywhere that a car can and without the “whoa I can’t take this things in there” kind of worry and also limbo under most of those height restrictors and rattle boards that you get in a lot of car parks and supermarkets.
I have seen the motor homes, even when they have been able to get in to the Supermarket car parks actually parked well away from the action where they occupy the multiple bays and hopefully without too much hassle from the attendant or the other users OR you’re doing a slow drive- by “have a look” when as if from nowhere, you have a posse of honkers behind you, “pressure or what” and you have committed to a tight spot that you knew wasn’t going to work no matter how much you breath in. Embarrassing or what… and often an expensive mistake in terms of damage
“Wasn’t my fault Mister but maybe that pop top was an option after all.
I really like the over cab bed but what a pain that I can’t park it where I want and I have to head for an official site even for an overnighter.
Campervans can be the bridge between the car and a motor home. It’s a car that you can sleep in and no bother that you have passed your test since 2007 because you can only drive 3.5t on your regular license and what car can you buy that you can phone up and tell it to turn the heater on.
